Hello Everyone,
Here is the summary from the 2023 Annual Meeting for everyone's records.
Treasurer Notes:
April remains Treasurer and updated the group present on the finances. Highlights below.
In 2022 we had 19 paying cottages, 17 of which followed through on the decision made at the 2022 meeting and paid a second installment of $50 to match the new annual fee of $350 annually
This resulted in a balance of ~$2,100 end of year 2022
In 2023 so far we’ve collected from 16 cottages (one more than reported at the meeting) noting the three who paid in 2022 but haven’t paid in 2023 have all been emailed but unresponsive and noting two of those three are the two that didn’t pat the incremental $50 in 2022 so their outstanding balance is now $400. They are encourage to contact April ASAP to arrange payment.
Fixed expenses in 2023 are expected to be ~$1,200 which is stable from 2022
About ½ of this is insurance with the remainder being FOCA membership (which gets us the reduced insurance cost), BBQ costs, and bank fees
April is budgeting for 18 paying cottages and $1,000 float and therefore approved $6,200 for road repairs/maintenance for 2023.
Road Report:
Dave provided the road report
The tributary at the bottom of “the big hill” was catastrophically damaged with the spring runoff and while the impacted owners have done their best to make it at least passable it is arguably not safe or stable in its current condition
It was agreed that repairing this section is both the priority for funding and urgent and Dave is proceeding with arranging for that work.
There was then extensive discussion about the remainder of the road during which Dave shared that after about 10 years of service he’d like to hand over the role to someone else.
A number of folks generously volunteered time and expertise and it was clarified after the meeting that Kevin will take the lead role as the single point of contact, consulting with others and drawing on their expertise and offers of equipment as needed.
Kevin will determine the best use of the additional funds once the tributary road work is complete (estimated at ~1,500-$2,000) in the coming weeks.
The group present thanked Dave for his service these past year.
Social Update:
Jay provided an update on the social activities of the association.
He reminded folks about the website and pointed out that it is a much more efficient form of communication that group emails and has the added benefit that all can participate.
The group made a collective decision to support the relaunch of that as the primary communication forum.
Jay also pointed out how difficult it is to organize events when people don’t respond with requested information, which Crystal, as the organizer and host of the Thanksgiving potluck echoed as well.
The annual horseshoe tournament was then kicked off and despite the occasional shower. Despite some ominous thunder and the occasional shower the annual horseshoe tournament was again a highlight . We had 10 teams featuring a number of guests.
The finals, played at the Kilburn Cottage featured Al Laver and his son in-law Justin against Jay and Sharron Kilburn. Despite being behind by 7 or 8 points the home team prevailed in a very tight match!
The finals were followed by a feast of burgers, hot dogs, sausages and tables of delicious homemade dishes. Approximately 40 cottagers and guests attended the summer's opening event. As usual, a wonderful way to kick off another great season on Wadsworth Lake!
